NHS Practitioner Health is available to any doctor or dentist living in England, or with a Responsible Officer in England.
Doctors and Dentists training under a London/South East LETB are also eligible for our wellbeing service: Click Here
Other NHS Staff are not currently able to self-refer to the service. Please seek help via your GP, occupational health or employee assistance programme. In exceptional circumstances, your GP may be willing to support an Individual Funding Request – please speak to them about this.
Other sources of help are available here.
We are able to accept self referrals from all doctors and dentists working in England who are currently (or have been within the past year) registered with the GMC or GDC. All referrals should be self-referral only, as we only accept referrals from the practitioner seeking support.
We are only able to accept referrals which meet the following criteria-
- You are a UK resident (Proof of address will be required at registration)
- You are registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) or the General Dental Council (GDC), or were registered within the last year
- You are unable to access mental health or addictions services in your local area due to the nature of your role
- You are not already receiving help for your mental health or addiction issue
We are unable to accept referrals for eating disorders, but may be able to advise or signpost you to the right support. NHS Practitioner Health does not treat physical health issues, please contact your own GP for support for these issues.
When you contact the NHS Practitioner Health (NHS PH) you will be asked a series of questions. The information given by you will remain completely confidential and will only be used to check that you are suitable for our service, it will be passed on to the clinician who will then be assessing you.
If you are suitable for NHS PH care, you will be invited to a face to face assessment which usually lasts around ninety minutes. Face to face assessments are held at a location near to you, provided by one of our national network of clinicians.
Registrations forms will be sent to the email address you provide for you to complete, the system used is completely secure.
The outcome of your assessment depends very much on the problems you present. If you are suitable for the NHS PH service, then it is likely that we will need to ask you to return for a follow up appointment. This follow up will allow us to provide you with a treatment plan, based on the assessment and on any other information that we (with your consent) have been able to obtain.
All information provided to NHS PH will remain completely confidential. For information on our confidentiality click on this link Confidentiality
